AES IN VIRGINIA
We’re committed to a safe and responsible transition to clean energy that benefits every Virginian
As a long-term owner-operator with our global headquarters in the Commonwealth, AES knows what it means to develop energy solutions in the places where we both work and live. Together with our communities, partners and customers, AES is developing and delivering innovative clean energy solutions to help Virginia achieve its goal to produce 100% of its electricity from carbon-free sources by 2050.
AES has more than 1,468 MW of planned clean energy development in Virginia. Our projects create jobs, build community partnerships, generate substantial revenue for local governments and protect the environment. We are dedicated to building meaningful partnerships with local nonprofits, educational institutions and local businesses to ensure our projects provide long-lasting benefits to the
community.

Impact we've made
Building partnerships to strengthen communities
We believe in being a good neighbor, ensuring responsible clean energy development that benefits both the environment
and local communities. At AES, we understand that our success as a company is only as strong as our partnerships with the communities where we operate. That’s why we partner with communities, customers, state agencies, higher
education and elected officials to see how we can best work together to support sustainable social and economic
development that complements the local geography and unique culture.

PARTNERSHIPS
Together with Microsoft
When Microsoft needed a partner to meet its commitment to transform its operations and create a cleaner cloud, they put their trust in us. Through the partnership, Microsoft purchased 315 MWac of solar energy from our Pleinmont I and II projects in Virginia, representing the single largest corporate purchase of solar energy in the United States at the time. The projects are part of the 485 MWac Spotsylvania Solar Energy Center and enabled Microsoft to make significant progress toward its goal of reaching 60 percent in 2020.

PARTNERSHIPS
Microsoft partnership impact
- Part of Spotsylvania Solar Energy Center, one of the largest solar project east of the Rockies
- Brought Microsoft one-step closer to achieving its goal of supplying its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025
- Supported Virginia in achieving its goal to produce 100% carbon-free electricity by 2050
- Created more than 700 construction jobs
- Creating 20-25 full-time equivalent, permanent jobs

Committed to supporting our landowners
We understand the importance of protecting farmland and preserving the local environment when developing renewable
energy projects. AES seeks opportunities to deliver added value through our best practices in project development to protect the land for future generations.
We offer landowners opportunities to tap into new sources of revenue on their land while retaining ownership throughout the entire life of the project. For many, this is a welcome complement to land use and an opportunity to diversify their land investment while hedging against volatile commodity prices. For others, our projects offer an income stream and land-use option where none otherwise existed.
Our team and landowners work together, in partnership, from the early stages of site discussions, through permitting,
construction, and operation. The landowner relationship with AES is built on trust and open communication, ensuring our projects create a long-lasting, positive impact for our landowners and local communities.
