WIND POWER IN WYOMING

Settler wind project

in development

AES’ Settler project is a planned wind generation facility in Converse County, Wyoming. The project will be located on privately owned lands located 20 miles southeast of Casper, Wyoming and will incorporate the most advanced wind generation technology. The 150-megawatt (MW) project will diversify the state’s energy resources while delivering reliable and affordable renewable energy to customers in Wyoming.

Project details

  • Project will be located on 13,000 acres of privately-owned agricultural land

  • The project will connect to the power grid at Pacificorp’s Amasa Substation

  • AES is the developer, long-term owner and operator

  • At the end of the project's life, a decommissioning plan allows for the land to return to agricultural use or other uses consistent with land-use policies at the time

Sustainability Resources

Community impact

At AES, we understand that our success as a company is only as strong as our partnerships with the communities where we operate. That’s why we partner with communities, customers, state agencies, higher education, elected officials, and other key stakeholders to see how we can best work together to support sustainable social and economic development.

AES is growing in Wyoming and we’re looking to partner with communities to ensure this project delivers broadly shared benefits to the local communities. We’re always on the hunt for local partners, so if you know of community initiatives needing support, please reach out to us!

Environmental and technical studies

We are conducting a series of studies that ensure our projects are responsibly designed and built.

   • Socioeconomic study
   • Terrestrial biological studies
   • Visual and acoustic analysis
   • Avian use surveys
   • Raptor nest surveys
   • Sage grouse surveys
   • Bat habitat assessment
   • Sensitive species surveys
