SOLAR POWER IN COLORADO

Yampa Valley solar + storage project

in development

AES’ Yampa valley solar + storage project is a planned solar and battery energy storage facility to be located about 4 miles southwest of Craig in Moffat County, Colorado. This project will feature the most advanced solar and battery energy storage technologies available and will directly support Colorado’s goal of transitioning to 100% clean electricity generation by 2040.

Our clean energy commitment

AES’ Yampa solar + storage project is a planned facility in Colorado. We are committed to responsible clean energy development that creates long-term value and positive impact for both the environment and local communities.

Economic and environmental benefits

We believe in being a good neighbor, ensuring responsible clean energy development that benefits both the environment and local communities without burdening existing infrastructure.

485,000 MWh

carbon-free electricity generated each year, improving air quality and reducing CO2 emissions

$15 million

expected new tax revenue over the life of the project, making AES one of the top taxpayers in Moffat County. Local schools will receive nearly 40% of the tax revenue

300 jobs

expected to be created during peak construction

At AES, we understand that our success as a company is only as strong as our partnerships with the communities where we operate. That’s why we partner with communities, customers, state agencies, higher education, elected officials, and other key stakeholders to see how we can best work together to support sustainable social and economic development.  AES is a proud member and partner of:

  • Craig Chamber of Commerce
  • Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition
  • Colorado Cattleman and Agriculture Land Trust
  • United Way of Yampa Valley

Colorado partnerships include:

  • Workforce Development Program: AES partners with Solar Energy International (SEI) to provide workforce training in Colorado, funding scholarships for 15 residents to enroll in SEI’s NABCEP PV Associates online course. This 10-week solar installation program supports veterans, returning citizens, and underserved youth. AES has invested $30K and plans to expand the initiative.
  • GRID Alternatives & Tribal Solar Accelerator Program: AES partners with GRID Alternatives to fund and volunteer for rooftop solar installations in Colorado and beyond. AES also donated $50K to support GRID’s TSAF program, advancing tribal solar projects and workforce training.
  • KidWind Educational Competitions: AES partnered with KidWind to support two 2023 Colorado competitions for 4th-12th graders, fostering creativity in renewable energy. AES employees volunteered as judges and sponsored materials. AES also pledged to help Crowley School District host a renewable energy education week for K-12 students.
