Resiliency
Building a resilient power grid
Energy storage is the bridge between a resilient power grid and our clean energy future. AES’ Luna and Lancaster Area Battery (LAB) energy storage facilities are helping California achieve both objectives.
The Luna and LAB projects demonstrate how we're advancing the state's 2045 zero carbon emissions goal while delivering reliable and affordable energy.

PARTNERSHIPS
AES' Coastal Enhancement Program
AES’ Coastal Enhancement Program is a multi-year initiative aimed at restoring local wetlands and expanding environmental education opportunities for youth and families in Southern California, with an emphasis on disadvantaged communities.
Since 2022, the program has reached over 26,000 community members and strengthened public-private conservation efforts of over 230 acres of coastal habitats alongside our program partners.
Program partners are Bolsa Chica Conservancy, Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy, Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority, and TreePeople.
The main goals of the AES’ Coastal Enhancement Program are to:
- Restore and improve access to wetlands in Long Beach, Seal Beach and Huntington Beach for this and future generations
Further AES’ commitment to social justice by expanding outreach and access to environmental education programs.
Components of the program also include support for Tribal Advisory Groups and tribal initiatives related to environmental conservation, as well as improved access to workforce development opportunities for members of disadvantaged communities to pursue careers in environmental sciences.

Partnerships
Sustain Our Future Foundation and Raceway project
AES collaborated with Microsoft and the Sustain Our Future Foundation (SOFF) to strengthen our commitment to social impact and clean energy deployment through an impact investment of $1.5 million that benefits community partners in and around Kern County. The investment is a feature of a Power Purchase Agreement between AES and Microsoft and builds on AES’ commitment to strengthen positive impact through socioeconomic and environmental partnerships that improve lives today and in the future.

Preserving the land and creating new opportunities with landowners
We understand the importance of protecting farmland and preserving the local environment when developing renewable energy projects. AES seeks opportunities to deliver added value through our best practices in project development to protect the land for future generations.
We offer landowners opportunities to tap into new sources of revenue on their land while retaining ownership throughout the entire life of the project. For many, this is a welcome complement to land use and an opportunity to diversify their land investment while hedging against volatile commodity prices. For others, our projects offer an income stream and land-use option where none otherwise existed.
Our team and landowners work together, in partnership, from the early stages of site discussions, through permitting, construction, and operation. The landowner relationship with AES is built on trust and open communication, ensuring our projects create a long-lasting, positive impact for our landowners and local communities.
