AES SUSTAINABILITY

Community partnerships and programs

In every community where we operate, we aim to be a trusted, long-term partner. Working together with local organizations, government agencies, nonprofits, unions, and community leaders, we co-develop social impact programs that align with local priorities and advance stronger, more resilient communities for generations to come.

In 2023, we participated in 500+ community initiatives, with:

1.9 million+

people directly and indirectly accessing community-oriented initiatives

$12.5 million+

invested in social impact programs, charitable donations and sponsorships

Access to energy and basic services

We partner for access to safe, efficient, and affordable energy and basic services, providing basic resources to the communities where we work.

Energy education

In collaboration with our partners, we develop and implement programs to strengthen local knowledge of electricity and how to use it safely and efficiently. These programs aim to help local families adopt safe, smart energy habits that last a lifetime.

Rural electrification

Access to energy is access to opportunity. Our rural electrification programs bring electricity to households and communities, helping improve daily life and expand access to essential services like education, healthcare, and public safety.

Access to basic services

In partnership with local organizations, we help expand access to basic needs such as health services and water. Our investments and programs enhance the well-being and resilience of the communities we serve.

Economic growth

We work with our partners to contribute to the economic and social development in the communities where we work. Our programs are focused on education and capacity building while contributing to local economies and preserving cultural traditions.

Capacity building and education

We are strengthening the future workforce by empowering individuals and communities through STEM curriculum partnerships, site visits, and applied learning experiences. Together with our partners, we help students and job seekers develop both theoretical and practical knowledge to more confidently enter an evolving energy landscape.

Women in energy

We offer technical training, certification programs, and career development resources for women interested in the energy sector. These initiatives support the growth of the energy workforce by enabling women to gain experience and pursue job opportunities in the industry.

Strengthening innovative entrepreneurship

We support entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners through programs that foster innovation and business growth. By providing access to mentorship, resources, and skill-building workshops, these initiatives help equip small and growing businesses to contribute to their local economies and communities.

Partnering for the environment

We work with our partners to develop programs focused on conservation, restoration, and the creation of green spaces, that enhance local environments and provide lasting value for the communities we serve.

Biodiversity

We partner with local organizations to protect wildlife, restore coastal and land environments, and support reforestation efforts. These projects reflect our commitment to environmental stewardship and create meaningful opportunities for local engagement.

Dual Use

Alongside landowners and partners, we invest in dual-use projects that co-locate renewable energy with agricultural or land-use activities. By designing sites that support livestock grazing, pollinator habitats, and crop cultivation, we aim to preserve land, enhance soil health, and develop projects that maximize positive contributions to the environment and local communities.

Environmental Education

We promote environmental education by partnering with organizations to expand access to high-quality classroom resources, field trips, digital content, and hands-on learning experiences. Through these initiatives, we are fostering the next generation of environmental leaders.

Community resilience and relief efforts

We work as one team with our people, contractors, customers, and communities to respond to natural disasters or  catastrophes in the communities. This includes making resources available, volunteering, and supporting front-line workers and organizations before, during, and after an event.

Community safety

Through partnerships and contributions, we work to strengthen community safety by investing in disaster preparedness. By equipping communities with the right tools, resources, and training, we enhance local capacity to respond to emergencies and recover more effectively.
